I feel the same way about old cars and old railroad cars...and especially about old streetcars and old rapid transit cars.

I do too but there's something different about airplanes. They're suppose to fly, and there's something especially beautiful about flight...

My hair guy's father owns one just like this:

1947 Ford Coupe...it's the same age I am.

I have wanted to own and drive one since I was fifteen years old.

That's my problem with car museums.  The cars look great and they are well cared for, but it is kinda sad to see them just parked there with nowhere to go.

The one armed guy in Sunshine Cleaning, how did he manage to make those models?

And is there really that sort of money to be made from cleaning up after suicides etc?

Around about 1980 I worked for a landscaping company. The guy that lived next door to the yard had lost an arm working for the railroad. Over the coarse of the summer I watched him build a greenhouse. Drill a hole, set down the drill, place a nail in the hole, pound it down. repeat.

So it would seem.

I recently put into the trash a doormat I had used for years. As I lowered the lid on the garbage can I found myself saying out loud "Thank you for your service".

When I use the self service till at a supermarket it finishes by saying thank you for shopping at wherever. And I always bow and tell the machine that it was my pleasure.

The younger you are, the less of a sentimental slob you are about objects, especially those you have some affection for. That mostly comes with aging.

Yep, there's usually a little volume button near the bottom of the screen somewhere!

Everything comes with aging according to you.  biggrin  Some things are dependent on personality too.

Though I will admit, sometimes when I'm in a store I will feel bad if I pick one object and put it back to pick out a better one behind it. That poor thing must feel so rejected.

You're weird...but I bet you're not the only one who does that and thinks that way. Lots of goofballs out there.

I was talking about the doormat...and somebody feeling sentimental about it. Especially if there were people in your life who wiped their feet upon it and they're now in a cemetery somewhere. cry

Have you ever seen Toy Story? biggrin Yes. Twenty-five years ago, when it was released. Can't recall if I've seen it again since 1995. Why do you ask?

Young people deal with death too you know. cry Yes, they do. My mother lost her father at fifteen. I never got to know him.

I was fourteen when my step-grandpa had a stroke and died at 75. Was not allowed to attend his funeral. Never understood why I couldn't say good-bye to Izzy (yes, that was really his name).

He was a Lithuanian immigrant and a staunch Socialist who helped to organize the needle trade unions around 1910. Fought the scabs and the goons in some bloody strikes in Chicago. Deaths on both sides.

He was a gruff SOB and rather intimidating. Took too many fascinating stories to his grave. How I wish he'd hung on a little longer. I would've hung on every word...when I got older...and bolder.
