I'm afraid my taste in metal might be a bit tame (and dated) for you.

Black Sabbath definitely counts and not tame at all.

As for "dated," this is often considered the first heavy metal song:

Fire isn't metal? I disagree. They are both metal.

There's no accounting for taste.

It's a good song for sure but not metal. Heavy metal is a specific genre of music. Fire is psychedelic rock and Uriah Heep is prog rock.

Uriah Heep and Arthur Brown fit nicely into that description.

"With roots in blues rock, psychedelic rock, and acid rock, the bands that created heavy metal developed a thick, massive sound, characterized by highly amplified distortion, extended guitar solos, emphatic beats, and overall loudness. The genre's lyrics and performance styles are sometimes associated with aggression and machismo"

No.

Now who is being semantic? For real though, Arthur Brown is not metal. That uriah heep album isn't metal. When in doubt Wikipedia lists the genre of all music on the page for the album, song, or artist.

You know, Wikipedia does say that album has some heavy metal in it. So I apologize for that. confuse

I was playing Arthur Brown, Black Sabbath and Uriah Heep on the job once and was asked, "Can you play something besides metal?". I'll ask you to do what I asked Ghostal, define metal.
