Today Lucinda somehow deleted most of my shortcut icons this afternoon, and they could not be restored. When I tried to do so, one-at-a-time, they wouldn't function, and I got repeated messages saying something like: Could not find Java home. I uninstalled Java and reinstalled a newer version. Next, I realized that we had somehow deleted all of our connections to Google Chrome. It was no longer a browser on our system. So I downloaded it. That did the trick.

It then took me several hours to locate all the websites and to recreate all twenty or so of the missing shortcut icons. But I cannot reconnect to what we used to call our "backup board"...is it permanently defunct? And what are the contingency plans if we ever get nuked--or something goes fizz?

I am so fucking sick of everything...tooth troubles for both of us, Leo wasting away to an orange shadow and getting more demented and confused by the day, electrical glitches in Mr. Cub (our PT Croozer), hassles with our newest TV and its connections to the DVD player, and now this stupid shit.

And best of all, it's snowing again, and there's freezing drizzle as well. Wake me up from this bad dream called February...but not until late April.

Charlie

The host for our backup board folded. I've been looking for another board host but so far haven't found anything I think will suit our purposes. When I do I'll let everyone know. Until I get a new backup established keep my email handy.

I'm pretty much in the same boat as you weatherwise. Nonstop snow, freezing rain and single digit temps for weeks now. I really hate Wisconsin in the winter.

no

I'm really sorry to hear about Leo's decline. lifespan, a major design flaw in kitties.

hmm

Edit to add:

Did you try a restore point to get your shortcuts back?

Sorry to hear about poor Leo. I too have a soft spot for orange boys. My parents had quite a number of them, my brother too, and I had a couple myself. My sister has one now that she adopted off the street, a big orange tom cat. She had noticed him walking by her place a few times while she was out pulling weeds and thought he looked like trouble. One day she decided to say "Hello" and he came running over to her. Sis swears she heard him say "Why yes, I could use a good home!". Turns out he is just a big sweetie pie.

I just noticed this weekend my old girl Carly appears to have lost weight. She's due to go in to the vet anyway, so I'll take her in this week. I'm just a little worried.

Hope tomorrow is a better one Charlie.

Boss Man, you need to PM me your e-mail address again...I think I may have lost it. Tried the restore point three times, but no dice. Did the Java upgrade out of sheer desperation, and then noticed Google Chrome was gone, so I reinstalled it, and that finally made the surviving icons operable. Then I had to restore all the missing icons from memory, because I had created so many of them. Good thing I have a lotta memory in my cabeza. Took hours to find all the sites and create the shortcuts. I find that Google Chrome makes it harder to create shortcuts than IE 11 does.

We have not had  anywhere near as much snow as Chicago and Wisconsin and Minnesota have had. Only about 27 inches for the whole winter, so far. But hey...it's February, the dog days of winter, and this time of year really sucks. I find February and March to be the hardest months to get through in this part of the world, because by this time, the thrill (if there ever was any) is gone, and this time of the year always sucks anyway. So this is the true abyss...not colder (and often sunnier) January. Late winter and early spring, in the Midwest, blow dead donkeys!

Know whatchoo mean, Dee...orange boys are the best! I love this guy! Never really knew how great orange tabbies could be until 2015. Leo has been getting skinnier for a long, long time, bcause he has multiple health issues (he's fifteen, maybe more...), but now he's getting more senile, and fast. Restless, agitated, and meows his head off...which is hard to hear. The complete opposite of what he was, until very recently. My sister just had to put down an old dog who was the same way...she just became too much for Sis to handle.

Haven't had any kittens or young cats in my life since around 2002...this house has been like a nursing home...well, an elderly kitties' home, anyway...for a VERY long time. The six cats whose ashes are buried in our front yard all lived to be anywhere from fourteen to twenty.

I would like to look for another orange male tabby, but our two females don't like each other, so if one showed up here, they would probably bully him...separately, not as a tag team. It would end up being a tale of three kitties, each of whom hated the other two. But maybe I can talk Lucinda into it. They are known for their sweet dispositions and friendly purrsonalities, so I would like to find another older Orangy Boy in the future. And they are beautiful animals, plus...I just love the color orange! My favorite!

Tomorrow will not be a better day...I have to be looked at by the oral surgeon...for my fifth implant. He will soon be the yanker, and I will be the Cranky Yankee. Oh, boy, more torture...months of it...I can hardly wait. And Leo goes to the vet for another shot on Thursday. I think his time is short. Oh, for one more summer of enjoying the little lion, lyin' in the sun. Probably not.

Didn't get much cleaning done because of this goddam compooter, and then I talked to Sis on the phone...she is dumping all my mom's photo albums on me. I get to relive my wedding to the Norwegian redhead in 1987, and a lot of family history, and images from about four decades of my past...the Fifties through the Eighties. It will give us something to pass the time during the endless shitty gray days we're about to face. Oh, for joy!

Time to hit the hay. -73- and good night to all...

Charlie
